Man faces jury in flag ripping case

Is a UNM student a patriot or vandal? That is the question in front of an Albuquerque jury. Peter Lynch, a military veteran, is at the center of the controversy. Prosecutors opened up the trial Monday saying Lynch should be found guilty of the misdemeanor charge of criminal damage to property. Lynch ripped down a Mexican flag last fall on the UNM campus. That flag belonged to El Centro De La Raza, a university group that has accused Lynch of a hate crime, and of being racist.

Such hatred…Now tell me why should an organization intended to give a certain group of people a voice be banned from U.S. schools. I am an American born in the U.S. as were my parents, and Grandparents who speak of a time when chicanos, or latinos as a whole could were humiliated in class rooms, discriminated and kept from using the same bathrooms, and water fountains as whites. Never again can this be. Unless your wish is take away the voices of your fellow Americans and those who wish to be.

Good thing they didn’t convict him of a hate crime, then he would of had a felony conviction on his record. At least with a misdemeanor conviction it doesn’t effect his constitutional rights. Score one for the “La Raza” smack down and zero for the patriotic veteran. It’s a sad day when political correctness prevails over patriotism.
