Is a UNM student a patriot or vandal? That is the question in front of an Albuquerque jury. Peter Lynch, a military veteran, is at the center of the controversy. Prosecutors opened up the trial Monday saying Lynch should be found guilty of the misdemeanor charge of criminal damage to property. Lynch ripped down a Mexican flag last fall on the UNM campus. That flag belonged to El Centro De La Raza, a university group that has accused Lynch of a hate crime, and of being racist.
